Salvation Mountain is a beautiful piece of art made by Leonard Knight who passed this past February. Before visiting I perceived it as merrily a tourist attraction, but once I was there it was hard not to recognize the love this man felt and wanted everyone to know. Its a persons life work and testament, that has been recognized as a National Folk Art Site. We are so use to seeing Christian signs saying “repent or die” and “sinners go to hell”, but Leonard Knight’s message was purely of love. He built this mountain out of donated paint and filled it with bright colors, flowers and scripture. I felt like I was walking around in a Christian Dr. Seuss book, and I couldn’t help but smile and feel like a child.
